We are a Group that plays Golf Croquet for fun, friendship and gentle exercise. We play three times a week in the summer season at Parkhead Cricket Ground by the Toby Carvery in Ecclesall Road South. Our more enthusiatic members play in matches with other clubs. (Croquet can be quite addictive).
Group sessions are Tuesday & Thursday afternoons (1.00 - 5.00 pm) and Wednesday mornings (10.00 – 1.00)
We have some 75 members and a few vacancies. U3A members are welcome to come up to twice in a year to try the game and see if they wish to join.
There are four full sized courts. Playing partners (we invariably play doubles) are decided by the drawing-names-from-the-bucket system designed to randomise partners and opponents. Games usually last about 25 minutes and members are free to arrive and leave when they like during the session.
All members should share in the tasks of laying out the courts, putting equipment away at the end, and preparing refreshments; these are included in the annual subscription; set at £40 for 2016.
All equipment, including mallets, is provided for members' use on the day.
There is no dress code for club sessions. The only formal requirement is to wear flat shoes so as not to damage the cricket outfield. Members playing in league matches are asked to wear whites.
Many members choose to buy their own mallet and we have a respected mallet-maker who comes on an ad hoc basis to advise and measure for customised mallets. These are likely to cost between £150 - £200.
The rules of Golf Croquet can be found at Croquet Association Golf Rules.
We hold a Single and Doubles competition each season.
