Stage One of the Sheffield Country Walk - Meadowhall to Treeton on Sunday 31 May.

Ten people were on the walk, only 3 of them U3A members.
The route was new to most of the walkers who found it very interesting,  and we enjoyed the glorious weather!

Stage Two: Well Lane to Eckington: Monday 1 June

Weather glorious - Walk attendance abysmal!

The adventure of travelling on public transport from home to Ponds Forge interchange was smooth and trouble free as was the courteous driver who carried us quickly to Treeton - our starting point for the day's meander through areas of past industries, mainly mining.

Although the day's weather could not be improved upon, the turnout most certainly could!?

Stella and Diane 'at one' with nature

By anyone's standard a leader accompanied by one member of the public could not be considered a promotional success story. Even by last year's ludicrous turnout this number is not good enough and some radical re-thinking of how the event is promoted is required.?

"Here already?"
Diane and Stella at Eckington Church
and it's just gone 2.00 o'clock.

We did actually increase the group number by fifty per cent part way through the walk when we were joined by Stella Longden, but this newly expanded cohort was not too large to cause holdups at gates or styles.

Overall, the walk was enjoyed by all three of us but it would have been more satisfying if more members of the general public were both aware of the event - and, perhaps most importantly, were incentivised enough to come along and enjoy the health benefits accruing from joining in?

Challenge Walk - Sheffield's NW Frontier: Tuesday 2 June

The Trig Point Bar
Julian organised a surprise meeting on Majorie Hill with the Challenge Walk who were walking 14 miles of Sheffields  'NW Frontier' led by Bill Barraclough.

Julian, Penny and Marianne met up with the group and celebrated with  champagne, laughter and amazement that we had arrived within ten minutes of each other, just giving us time to set up the bar on the trig point!

Stage 5 - Fox House to Moscar Lodge returning to Dennis Knoll CP - 4th June

It was perfect walking weather, warm, dry and clear.

A group of 18 met at Fox House having already left 4 cars at Dennis Knoll CP for the return journey.

We were delighted to welcome 4 members of the public, Glynis and Phil who had already joined the Stage 1 walk and Orlan and Melissa who have lived in Sheffield for the last three years and are begining to enjoy the surrounding countryside.

Everyone enjoyed a really good walk with fantastic views from Stanage Edge which could not fail to encourage further exploration of the wonderful Peak District.

Stage 6: Moscar to High Bradfield: 5 June

Stage 6 of the Country Walk was not led by a U3A member, but a member of the Ramblers' Association. 5 people were on the walk, including 2 foreigners from Rotherham.  The walk finished at High Bradfield, just before the rain started.

Stage 7: High Bradfield to Greno Woods: 6 June

Weather appalling!

No photos, no report, no walk!! No one turned up at Bradfield for stage 7 of the walk, and the leader did not fancy walking alone!

Stage 8: Greno Woods to Meadowhall

A repeat of yesterday but with even worse weather! No one turned up except the leader.
